An Armed Assault on a Border Patrol Facility

An early morning attack on a U.S. Border Patrol facility in McAllen, Texas, on Monday ended with the gunman dead after a shootout with federal agents.

The attacker, identified as 27-year-old Ryan Louis Mosqueda, arrived at the sector annex around 5:50 a.m. wearing a tactical vest and armed with an assault rifle. He immediately opened fire on the building, injuring two Border Patrol agents and one civilian employee before agents returned fire and killed him.

The attack is the second on a federal immigration facility in Texas in just four days, following the coordinated ambush on an ICE detention center in Alvarado on July 4th.

A Father’s Unheeded Warning

In a tragic and infuriating twist, it has been revealed that local police were warned about Mosqueda hours before he launched his attack. According to McAllen Police Chief Victor Rodriguez, the shooter’s father had contacted police in the nearby town of Weslaco to report that his son was armed and experiencing severe “psychological issues.” By the time Weslaco police responded to that location, Mosqueda was already gone. Hours later, he began his deadly assault in McAllen.

A Motive Shrouded in Mystery

The motive for the attack remains unknown. As reported by CBS News, Mosqueda had a Michigan address but was staying in the area. A search of his vehicle uncovered additional weapons and ammunition. Adding to the mystery, his car had strange writing scrawled on the driver’s side door, which investigators believe might be Latin.

The FBI has now taken the lead in the investigation and is working to determine what drove Mosqueda to target federal agents. While investigators have not yet officially linked this attack to the July 4th ambush on the Alvarado ICE facility, the timing and targeting have raised serious concerns about a potential new wave of politically motivated violence against immigration enforcement personnel.
