Record Arrests Under Border Czar’s Direction

Former ICE Acting Director Tom Homan, appointed by President Trump as the new “border czar,” has overseen the arrest of approximately 68,000 illegal aliens inside the United States over the past three months. This informal but powerful position gives Homan significant authority over border security and immigration policies.

With over 30 years of law enforcement experience, Homan has long been known for advocating strict immigration controls and aggressive enforcement tactics. The Trump administration reports that ICE interior arrests have increased by more than 137% since taking office, with a focused emphasis on individuals with criminal backgrounds.

“Approximately 68,000 illegal aliens were arrested inside the United States over the past three months,” said Tom Homan. “And we’re going to continue, despite what the district court says.”

The “Trump Effect” on Border Security

The administration has reported a substantial decrease in illegal border crossings, which they attribute to what they call the “Trump Effect.” According to Homan, daily migrant border crossings have plummeted from over 11,000 to fewer than 230.

This dramatic reduction comes alongside the administration’s termination of “catch-and-release” policies, replacing them with a more stringent focus on detaining and deporting arrested immigrants. The administration has prioritized the removal of individuals who pose public safety risks, with ICE reporting nearly 8,300 arrests in Trump’s first 10 days in office, many involving serious criminal offenses.

The administration’s enforcement efforts appear to be resonating with many Americans, as public opinion polls show 59% support for increased deportation efforts. While opposition exists, the administration maintains that these measures are necessary for national security and public safety.

Workplace enforcement targeting undocumented workers and employers has also intensified, with employers being advised to prepare for potential ICE audits by reinforcing compliance efforts and establishing proper I-9 verification protocols.

Legal Challenges and Continued Operations

The administration faces significant legal obstacles in its immigration enforcement efforts. U.S. District Judge Alvin Hellerstein has temporarily blocked certain federal actions related to Trump’s deportation orders.

Despite these legal setbacks, Homan has been clear about the administration’s intentions to continue arrests while legal appeals are underway. The administration has filed appeals against the court’s decision, though some deportation operations have been temporarily paused pending judicial resolution. This has not deterred the overall enforcement strategy.

“Maybe we’ve got to hold off on some of the deportation operation we’re doing, but it’s not going to stop us from seeking these people now, arresting them, and taking them off the streets of the United States while we’re waiting for the courts to decide,” explained Tom Homan.

Targeting Criminal Organizations

President Trump signed an executive order designating certain gangs and cartels as foreign terrorist organizations, enhancing authorities’ ability to combat these groups. The administration has utilized the Racketeer Influenced and Corrupt Organizations Act (RICO) to target criminal networks operating within immigrant communities.

In a notable operation, 27 members of the Tren de Aragua gang were recently arrested and charged with various crimes including racketeering. This approach demonstrates the administration’s strategy of employing multiple legal frameworks to address both immigration violations and associated criminal activity.

“By targeting individuals with serious criminal backgrounds, we are sending a clear message that there is no safe-haven for those who commit heinous acts,” stated Edward V. Owens.

The administration has consistently defended its approach against criticism regarding due process concerns. Homan has been outspoken in rejecting claims that those arrested are being denied proper legal procedures. He emphasizes that the administration’s primary goal remains securing the border for national security purposes while targeting public safety threats for removal. With Homan at the helm of border security efforts, employers and communities nationwide are preparing for continued aggressive immigration enforcement in the coming months.
